Student experience and campus life

A 340-acre wooded residential campus 17 kilometres from central Paris, over 40 student-led clubs, the MBAT, and a leadership seminar run by ex-military officers at St. Cyr.

The residential campus

Unlike many European business schools located in cramped urban centres, HEC Paris offers a 340-acre wooded residential campus in Jouy-en-Josas, roughly 17 kilometres from the heart of Paris. This setting creates a "bubble" environment that fosters an unusually close-knit and collaborative community.

Residential dynamics
Approximately 80% of MBA students live on campus in dedicated dorms. This proximity allows for a lifestyle where students can wake up minutes before class and still arrive on time. Living together facilitates constant networking, from impromptu hallway debates to late-night study sessions.
Campus facilities
The campus is a blend of history and modern sports infrastructure. It features a private lake, a chateau, 20km of running trails and a forest. For physical wellness, students have access to a gym, a full track, a basketball court and two sand volleyball courts.
Daily life and socialising
The S Building serves as the hub for all MBA courses. Social life often revolves around the MBA Lounge, campus bars and organised events like the Wine and Cheese evening, which provides an "international context with French vibes". For groceries, students utilise a large nearby supermarket within walking distance, which serves as a vital resource for those living in the residence.
The "Paris advantage"
While the campus offers a quiet environment for reflection, Paris is easily accessible via frequent shuttles and trains. The school provides shuttles specifically for weekend nightlife, ensuring students can enjoy the city's cultural and social scene while maintaining their focus on campus.

The club ecosystem and leadership in action

With over 40 student-led clubs, the HEC Paris MBA offers a platform for students to test leadership theories in real-world scenarios. These clubs are divided into professional, regional and social categories.

Professional clubs
Examples include the Consulting Practice, Venture Capital Club and the Retail & Luxury Club. These clubs act as professional bridges; for instance, the Retail & Luxury Club frequently organises excursions and networking events with major Maisons like Chloé or LVMH.
Regional and cultural clubs
Clubs like the Latin America Club or Middle East Club allow students to share their heritage. This is complemented by Culture Weeks, where students host traditional dinners and presentations to help classmates understand business nuances in different parts of the world.
Special interest clubs
These include the Health and Wellness Club, which has organised teams for the Paris Marathon, and the LGBTQ+ & Ally Club, promoting an inclusive campus environment.
The MBA Tournament (MBAT)
Often described as the "Olympics of the MBA", the MBAT is the largest student-run MBA gathering in Europe. Entirely organised, budgeted and executed by HEC students, it welcomes nearly 1,500 to 1,800 participants from 20 top global business schools for a weekend of sports and networking.
The St. Cyr leadership seminar
A hallmark of the HEC experience is the off-campus leadership seminar at the St. Cyr Military Academy. Led by ex-military officers, students work in teams of 10 to solve high-pressure physical challenges — such as building a bridge across a pit — to identify their leadership strengths and weaknesses.
